Happy Birthday, Sandy! He turns 84 today.

Los Angeles Dodgers star southpaw pitcher Sandy Koufax hoists a champagne toast in dressing room here 10/6, after the Dodgers won the 4th Series game in a row to give them the title. The Dodgers handed New York its first 4-game shutout in 28 trips to the classic.Below are more links to check out:
- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1958 the Dodgers officially released soon-to-be Hall of Famer Pee Wee Reese. He would then become a Dodgers coach for the 1959 season, then enter broadcasting as a color-man for CBS from 1960 to 1965. In 2015 the Dodgers signed free agent starter Scott Kazmir to a three-year, $48 million contract. He would have a decent first season -- going 10-6 with a 4.56 ERA in 26 starts -- but would end the season on the DL due to hip issues and would not pitch again.

“We always are looking to make our team better for this year and the future. I hate to be vague but that’s just how we wake up every morning thinking about things. Maybe it’s a free agent, maybe it’s a trade, maybe it’s neither. Just winning the offseason, winning the Winter Meetings, that’s not a factor. Making the team better is a factor. Making it better in a way that keeps us better in the long haul with all the many considerations go into that kind of judgement, that’s what we focus on.”

On Saturday, Bellinger was on Oahu holding a camp with Team Kado Baseball at Mid-Pacific. The young Bellinger is not far removed from his youth baseball days.“It’s important,” Bellinger said of giving back. “This is the first thing that I’ve done, technically, with the kids since I’ve been in the big leagues. I’m excited to come out and I think I’m really gonna enjoy it. Probably the first of many.”
- Via George Miller at MLB Trade Rumors -- "Dodgers Release JT Chargois." Apparently, he has signed with a Japanese team -- Rakuten Golden Eagles.
Chargois, 29, spent the last two years in the Dodgers organization, splitting time between the big league club and its Triple-A affiliate. In 60 games with the team, he posted a respectable 4.53 ERA over 53 2/3 innings, to go with an even better FIP (3.98). He struck out 68 batters over that same span (11.4 K/9) and was generally a fine reliever for the Dodgers, though he ran into trouble with the home run ball in 2019, allowing four in 21 1/3 innings of work.
- Per David Rice at Halo Hangout -- "Former Angels hitting coach Mickey Hatcher has seen it all in baseball."
Q: What was it like playing for the Dodgers with all the history and tradition they have and the legends you got to interact with?MH: “Being able to talk to guys like Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, and Roy Campanella to name a few was unbelievable. I just loved being able to sit around with Koufax and Drysdale and hear stories of baseball history. To this day I still have lunch with Sandy Koufax occasionally and that is very special,” Hatcher said with a smile. “This is what baseball was all about. These young kids coming up now don’t know how hard it was back then and how much of a grind that baseball really is. These stories that I would hear from these guys would help keep going when things were tough.”

It’s unbelievable to get drafted,” he said. “It’s unreal. You think about this as a kid in Madera American Little League and you are getting older, it might become a reality some day. You keep working hard and here it is.”“I’ve been a Dodgers fan my entire life,” Gamboa said. “How crazy is that? As soon as I got drafted, cars were pulling up to my house and Dodgers jerseys everywhere. It’s crazy right now. It feels like a dream.”
