Above is a 1950's era New York Herald Tribune press photograph featuring Carl Furillo rounding thirdbase, presumably after hitting a home run (eBay auction link). He is greeted by coach Walter Alston. Unfortunately, an exact date of the photo is unknown. It was originally taken by staff photographer Jack Frank.

- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1973 the Dodgers trade outfielder Willie Davis to the Expos for relief pitcher Dr. Mike Marshall. Dr. Marshall went on to win the NL Cy Young Award that next season. He pitched in 106 games, finished 83 of them and recorded a league high 21 saves as a reliever. In 2011 the Dodgers signed free agent utilityman Jerry Hairston to a two-year $6 million contract. He would soon thereafter retire and join the Dodgers broadcast crew.

- RIP, Joe Sanchez. Via Laurence Reisman at TC Palm -- "Community will miss humor, stories of ex-Vero Beach Dodgers announcer Joe Sanchez."
On Saturday, John Shoemaker, former Vero Beach Dodgers manager, cited a comment made by Vin Scully, legendary Dodgers broadcaster.“ ‘Good is not good when better is expected’,” Shoemaker quoted Scully as saying. “He was definitely talking about Joe Sanchez.
“Joe Sanchez was a major league guy. He was just working in a minor league town. Joe Sanchez was better than good.”
And he loved to have fun, Shoemaker said.
- Memorabilia: Inside the Park Collectibles current auction has a fantastic 1950's era Brooklyn Dodgers doll made by the Flagg Doll Company available, and it awesome. This is the kind of stuff that is rarely seen anymore -- especially in this condition. Go here to check it out. A pic of the doll is on the right.

- Per Maury Brown at Forbes -- "MLB Clubs Are Now Able To Sell Local Streaming Rights: Why That Is A Huge Deal." I am crossing my fingers in the hope that the Dodgers do what's right. Please help us cut the cord.
