2019 Topps Total - Wave 3 - All the Dodger Cards - Muncy, Urias and Garcia

The third wave of 2019 Topps Total cards are now available and this time there are only three Dodgers available in this printing. They are Max Muncy, Julio Urias and Yimi Garcia. Go here for a complete checklist. A total of 5,547 packs were sold and this translates into a individual card print-run of approximately 555 cards.

BTW, the Yimi Garcia card is his first regular issue-styled offering since the 2015 Strata set (please correct me if I'm wrong). This isn't all that surprising since he's a reliever. These position players oftentimes only get a card during their rookie campaigns -- unless, of course, your a high-level closer. He does, on the other hand, have an 2018 Topps Now card that tells us that he was one of four pitchers to throw a combined no-hitter on May 4, 2018. You can check out that card here.

With the All-Star Game looming I figured the above press photo, originally taken by the Dodgers first in-house photographer Frank Worth, would be an apt share (eBay link). It features Jerry Reuss, in his second career All-Star appearance, being interview before the start of the 1980 All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium -- the last time they played the game in Los Angeles.

BTW, the National League won this contest, 4-2, and Jerry Reuss recorded the win. He pitched the sixth inning and struck out all three batters he faced (Darrell Porter, Buddy Bell and Tommy John).

• This Day in Dodgers History: In 1939 Dodger shortstop Leo Durocher instigated a melee. During the second game of a doubleheader at the Polo Grounds, Durocher grounded into a double play and spikes the Giants first baseman, Zeke Bonura, as he crosses the base (similar to Manny Machado's recent incident). Bonura proceeded to chase Leo down the right field line, throws his glove and wrestles him to the ground. After the game 'Leo the Lip' says, "If that big clown hadn't got his foot in my way, I wouldn't have been close to him." In 1962 starter Johnny Podres recorded eight consecutive strikeouts during the Dodgers 5-1 victory over the Phillies to tie a Major League record. It all began with the third out in the top of the fourth inning and ends after the first out of the seventh. In 1995 Hideo Nomo becomes the first player from Japan to be selected to participate in the All-Star Game. Leading the NL in strikeouts with 119, Nomo would start the game nine days later, pitch two scoreless innings, allow just one one hit (to Carlos Baerga) and strike out three.
