Blog Kiosk: 1/15/2020 - Dodgers Links & News - Some Odds and Ends

I wonder what is on Campanella's mind in the photo above.
Watches Old Teammate -- Vero Beach, FLA: Probably recalling the no-hit games of 1952 and 1956 when they were batter-mates, Roy Campanella watches pitcher Carl Erskine warm up during a training session here. Campanella is now a special coach with the Los Angeles Dodgers. 3/4/59.

The Dodgers didn’t win it on the field, but history should forever note that nobody beat them.
  • To the surprise of no one, the Red Sox fired Alex Cora yesterday, per Steve Adams and Connor Byrne at MLB Trade Rumors. Say It Ain't So, Alex Cora!
  • Via Maury Brown at Forbes -- "Why The Astros’ World Series Championship Won’t Be Vacated As Part Of Sign-Stealing Scandal."
  • Shortly after Manfred’s ruling, MLB Players Association executive director Tony Clark released a statement saying: “A number of important issues and questions have emerged from these recent investigations. These matters directly affect all Players and the way our game is played, now and going forward. Because there still remains an open investigation on this topic, further comment would be premature.”
The release by Clark was a clear message: Any attempt to go after players would come with challenges by the union.
  • Here's James Loney on the scandal and Alex Cora, via his twitter:

“Obviously, the trade for some high-caliber guys. Learning a new organization. I’m so new to professional ball already, then I’m in a new organization six months later,” he said. “But, I went to Spring Training with open eyes and I wanted to enjoy every moment I was in. The Dodgers, being such a great organization, made it a lot easier to transition.”
  • Per Jim Callis at MLB.com -- "2020's top rookie? We asked MLB execs." Unsurprisingly, Gavin Lux is ranked first overall:
Besides winning the poll, Lux garnered 90% of the votes given to National League prospects. The 20th overall pick in the 2016 Draft hit .347/.421/.607 with 26 homers and 10 steals between Double-A and Triple-A last season, becoming the first middle infielder age 21 or younger to post a 1.000 OPS in the upper Minors since Gregg Jefferies in 1987. He also came within .001 of on-base percentage of leading all Minor League shortstops in all three slash stats for the second straight year.
