- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1936 the Dodgers and Yankees complete their very first trade with each other. Brooklyn sent Buzz Boyle, Johnny McCarthy and $40,000 to the New York for Buddy Hassett. In 1984 Pedro Guerrero signed a five-year $7MM contract to stay a Dodger. In 2017 the Dodgers signed free agent outfielder Franklin Gutierrez to a one-year $2.6MM contract. He would only get into 35 games (primarily as a pinch hitter) before shutting down in June due to an recurrence of ankylosing spondylitis.

“I definitely feel for my new teammates. I can sense that hurt,’’ Price said. “These guys have played really good baseball the past couple of years and they’re always knocking on that door. I want them to experience the feeling I felt after the (final) game. I can’t even put it into words. It’s something you have to experience for yourself, and you’ll cherish that moment for the rest of your life.’’
- Yadier Álvarez is trying. Via a tweet from Pedro Moura:
Yadier Álvarez, former top prospect, spoke to reporters. He has had discipline issues during his unproductive four-season tenure with the Dodgers. He said several times the has been “acting like a child” and resolved to act more professionally. A psychologist helped him, he said.— Pedro Moura (@pedromoura) February 19, 2020
- Just in case you were wondering who'll be pitching for the Dodgers this weekend, via a tweet from Alanna Rizzo:
Tony Gonsolin will start Saturday. Alex Wood will start Sunday. Roberts says they’ve privately named an Opening Day starter but there is no sense in announcing it publicly.— Alanna Rizzo (@alannarizzo) February 20, 2020

“We knew when those guys were hired that we were going to have our work cut out for us,” Friedman said, mentioning Hazen and Diamondbacks assistant GMs Jared Porter and Amiel Sawdaye.“And you look at the growth in that organization from when they came in to now, in terms of every important metric: farm-system ranking, runway of talent at the major league level, financial flexibility as they look out – they’ve kind of hit it out of the park on all fronts.”
- I'll give credit when it's due. This is fantastic and I applaud the Giants for doing it. Via a tweet from Henry Schulman:
My exclusive story on the #SFGiants raising minor-league pay and adding a housing allowance for the first time is not as sexy as the Huff story (or thong," but it is important: Here it is again: https://t.co/j5BeqvJa6j— Henry Schulman (@hankschulman) February 18, 2020
