- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1983 longtime Dodger manager Walter Alston is elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Special Veterans Committee vote. Detroit infielder George Kell was also elected. In 2012 the Dodgers signed 27-year old former NFL defensive back Jarrad Page to a minor league contract after impressing scouts during an open tryout in Arizona. Page played six season in the NFL, but decided to tryout during the Dodgers spring camp when he realized his pro football career was coming to an end.
- Happy Birthday, Gene DeMontreville, Art Herring & Steve Howe!
- In case you're interested -- Per Rowan Kavner at Dodgers Digest -- "Major League Baseball releases statement on coronavirus precautions."
While MLB recognizes the fluidity of this rapidly evolving situation, our current intention is to play Spring Training and regular season games as scheduled.
- The Oklahoma City Dodgers blog, Beyond the Bricks, has been sharing a bunch of pics from Spring Training in Arizona. Go here, here or here to check them out.

- It should come as no surprise that the Dodgers' Opening Day starter will be Clayton Kershaw -- for the ninth time in his career, via a tweet from Bill Plunkett. This tweet also confirms that Alex Wood has won the job as the fifth man in the rotation:
No surprises in #Dodgers season-opening rotation. Dave Roberts said it will be Clayton Kershaw followed by Walker Buehler then David Price, Julio Urias and Alex Wood— Bill Plunkett (@billplunkettocr) March 9, 2020
- On choosing Kershaw for Opening Day, via a tweet from Bill Plunkett:
#Dodgers Kershaw said it was 3-way discussion with Buehler, Roberts: "We kind of all got together and I said I don't want a charity Opening Day. If you want me to do it, great. But if you want Walker to do it, great too. Walker was great about it. I'm thankful that I get to do it— Bill Plunkett (@billplunkettocr) March 9, 2020
- Holy Moly. How long before this becomes a reality here? Per an AP report at Sports Illustrated -- "Virus Postpones Opening of Japanese Pro Baseball Season."
- So many interviews! Per Lisa Johnson at Beyond the Bricks -- "Interviews from Dodgers Spring Training." OKC Dodgers Director of Communications and Broadcasting Alex Freedman caught up with a bunch of Dodger prospects and this post includes a whole bunch of them -- including Mitchell White, Tony Gonsolin and Edwin Rios.
- This mornings Baseball America Prospect Report makes note of Dodger hurler Tony Gonsolin:
On the day the Dodgers announced their Opening Day rotation would not include Gonsolin, the Dodgers’ No. 4 prospect went out and continued to dominate as he has all spring. Gonsolin pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief with two hits, one walk and three strikeouts against the Padres. He has yet to allow a run in three spring training appearances and is making a strong case to break camp with the Dodgers as a swingman.
- Woo Hoo! Willie Calhoun had surgery and is doing fine, via a tweet from him:
Hey guys, just want to thank everyone for your prayers, I just got out of surgery and I’m doing well. Can’t wait to be back hitting homers soon 🐻— June Calhoun (@11WillieCalhoun) March 10, 2020
- Dustin May's new number, via a tweet from MLB Jersey Numbers:
RHP Dustin May (@d_maydabeast) switches from number 85 to number 18. Last worn by RHP Kenta Maeda in 2019. #Dodgers (thanks to @FullMinorsGuy for bringing it to our attention) pic.twitter.com/2D4ANymQYn— MLB Jersey Numbers (@NumbersMLB) March 8, 2020
