2020 Topps Now -- MLB Opening Day Dodger Cards

The first Topps Now cards of the 2020 season are now available, and three of them are Dodger related. Card #1 features last nights league unifying peaceful protest that included ballplayers from the Yankees, Nationals, Giants and Dodgers -- kneeling respectfully (some of whom were clearly praying) before the flag. Go here to check it out and order.

Following that is a Dustin May card. As you know, he came in to the game to take over for the recently injured Clayton Kershaw and pitched admirably -- going four strong innings (throwing 63 pitches), allowing five hits, one run and striking out three. Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:
“It’s the kind of thing you dream about, like a debut,” said May. “I was anxious, just not being in a game scenario since October. The anxiousness of wanting to get started, but once the first pitch was thrown I was all good.”

After Clayton Kershaw was scratched from Thursday night's start with back stiffness, the Dodgers tabbed Dustin as their emergency Opening Night starter. Pitching in only his fifth Major League start, May was the first Dodgers rookie to start an opener since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981. The 6' 6" righthander was solid -- scattering seven singles across 4.1 innings while striking out four. He averaged 9.58 MPH on his fastball and flashed triple digits on the radar gun a few times as well.
Lastly, game hero Kiké Hernandez is the third Dodgers' card. He was lights out.

With looming free agency at the end of the season, Hernández knows Gavin Lux is being groomed for the position. But he said he spent the break reminding himself not to do too much.
“That was the approach I took tonight and it paid off,” said Hernández, who chided himself for bloopers in his first three at-bats. “Get jammed and throw a grenade out there and hope they land. Then find the barrel a little more. I have a quick bat and every time I swing it looks max effort. I’ve got to constantly remind myself to slow down.”

IN an Opening Night matchup between the two West Coast rivals, it was Enrique's bat that stole the show. The Dodgers fan-favorite went 4-for-5 and collected his first career five-RBI game, tying Joe Morgan's 1978 mark of most RBI by a second baseman on Opening Day since the stat became official in 1920. After run-scoring hits in the fourth and seventh, it was his two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth that was the cherry on top.
