Sometimes you need just a bit of luck.
Featured above is a October 3, 1952 International News Press Photo (eBay auction link) featuring Dodger skipper Chuck Dressen before the start of game three of the World Series. Per the descriptor on the reverse:
Manager Charles (Chuck) Dressen of the National League Champion Brooklyn Dodgers makes it double in crossed fingers to scare odd the "Whammy" before the start of the third game od the 1952 World Series at Yankee Stadium today. Dressen's Brooks took the series opened, 4-2 and sropped the secon to the Yanks to the tune of 7 to 1 to even the contest at one game apiece. Hurling for the Brooks will be done by Preacher Rowe today and for the Yanks it will be Ed Lopat. - The deal with Dave Roberts is now done. Per a Dodger press release:
The Los Angeles Dodgers today announced that Dave Roberts has agreed to a four-year contract to manage club through 2022. The announcement was made by Dodger President, Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman.“Keeping Doc as our leader on the field was a top priority this offseason and now that we’ve accomplished that we are excited to collectively shift all of our focus to doing all we can to bring a World Championship to our passionate fans,” said Friedman.
...
“When I was hired to lead this team three years ago, I said at the time that managing the Dodgers is truly the opportunity of a lifetime and I feel the exact same way today,” said Roberts. “We’ve worked hard to develop a team and culture that will put us in position to win the World Series every season, but we still have yet to achieve our ultimate goal and that is what drives me each day. I want to thank Andrew, Stan Kasten and our outstanding ownership group for believing in me and keeping me in Dodger Blue, a uniform I’m so proud to wear.”
- Per Nick Cafardo at Boston Globe; "Has Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gotten over losing the last two World Series?"
“It’s one of those things where you have to be able to bucket not winning the World Series, but not discredit what the organization and what the people in the organization have done to get to that point,” Roberts said. “It’s not easy to win it all. To get there is still a success in its own right. You just have to do what you can to give yourself the opportunity to get there again. That’s our goal.”

- I am loving the Adrian Beltre stories. For instance, Beltre told the Rangers GM that he was thinking of playing another season, but as a Dodger before retiring. Then, he started laughing ans said he was kidding. Watch the story being told below, via a tweet from MLB:
Adrián Beltré informed the @Rangers of his retirement in the most Adrián Beltré way possible. 😂 pic.twitter.com/UW1KO25wrk— MLB (@MLB) November 30, 2018
- On Adrian Beltre, per Jeff Wilson at the Star-Telegram:
“I thought that was appropriate that a guy who loves to play the game have a little fun at our expense come decision time,” Daniels said. “There is an element of sadness for us and our fans, just because that piece of it is coming to an end, just to have fun and watch him on the field every day how he played the game. There is also a real sense of pride and I think we are all humbled that he has chosen to retire as a Texas Ranger.”

The Los Angeles Sports Council has named longtime Los Angeles Dodgers executive Daniel Siegel president of the organization, according to an announcement Nov. 30.
