Just another fantastic vintage press photo (eBay link) -- this time it's of a successful steal of third, dated 9/29/1938. Per the descriptor on the reverse.
Can't Catch This ThiefBelow are more links to check out:
Boston Braves catcher Al Lopez slides safely into third with one of his two stolen bases in yesterdays game with the Dodgers at Ebbets Field. In the fourth inning of the first game Lopez swiped third as Dodgers third sacker Cookie Lavagetto turns with catcher Greek George's late throw. The Bees won the opener 2-1, with the Dodgers taking the nightcap 8-6 before 2,822 paying patrons.
- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1947 then Pirates slugger Hank Greenberg reached out to Jackie Robinson during a game at Forbes Field. While standing on first base he asked Jackie if he was hurt during a collision with him earlier in the game and then says, "Stick in there. You're doing fine. Keep your chin up." Knowing that Greenberg knew first hand the difficulties he had been facing, due to his own Jewish heritage, Jackie would later name him his "diamond hero." In 1978 Dodger slugger Lee Lacy hit his third consecutive home run as a pinch-hitter -- becoming the first player to have ever done so.

- The Dodgers play musical chairs with their roster. Via Mark Polishuk at MLB Trade Rumors -- "Dodgers To Place Kenta Maeda On 10-Day Injured List." The Dodgers also brought Caleb Ferguson back up from the IL, sent catcher Rocky Gale and reliever JT Chargois back to Triple-A Oklahoma City and will also be calling up utilityman Matt Beaty and outfielder Kyle Garlick (his first Major League stint).
Maeda fouled a ball off his thigh in last night’s game, and the Dodgers are thusly putting him on the IL “as a precaution,” Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register tweets. Since the Dodgers have two off-days next week, it looks like Maeda will miss one start at the most while he recovers from what looks like a minor injury.

- Per Sean Facey at 12UP -- "Dodgers and Giants Reportedly Among Teams Scouting Shohei Ohtani's Former Teammate in Japan."
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants are reportedly among the teams scouting Ohtani's former teammate Kohei Arihara.
...In seven appearances this year, Arihara has a 5-1 record, a 1.47 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 49 innings of work.
- Here's some more detail about that incident at Wrigley Field back in 2000. Via Jason Foster at the Sporting News -- "May 16, 2000: When the Dodgers charged into Wrigley Field stands for revenge."
Three fans involved in the fight were arrested. The Dodgers later settled a lawsuit with one fan who said Kreuter choked him while other player hit him. In 2003, a Cook County jury awarded $475,000 to the same fan after it found the Cubs and two employees guilty on civil charges of malicious prosecution and false imprisonment, according to the Chicago Tribune.Meanwhile, Josh Pulliam, the fan who started the whole thing by taking Kreuter's hat, never faced any legal penalties. Years later, he called the incident "a stupid prank gone horribly wrong."

- Zach Reks is moving on up, per a tweet from Alex Freedman:
Zach Reks has joined the @okc_dodgers and will make his Triple-A debut tonight. Was leading the Texas League in HR, OPS, and runs.— Alex Freedman (@azfreedman) May 16, 2019
