Blog Kiosk: 5/21/2019 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

This looked painful.

Featured above is an Associated Press photo of Duke Snider falling like a tree after getting plunked by NY Giants hurler Marv Grissom on Tuesday, June 29, 1954 (eBay auction link). Per the descriptor on the reverse:
THE DUKE IS FELLED.  Duke Snider, hard-hitting centerfielder of the Brooklyn Dodgers, holds his right elbow and falls to the ground after being hit by ball being pitched by Giant relief hurler Marv Grissom in tenth inning of game at Polo Grounds, New York, night of June 29. An examination showed no break, but Snider could hardly lift his arm later. Giants won, 4 to 3, in 13th inning.

The foundation unveiled its inaugural “Kenley’s Locker” on May 10, designed to distract pediatric patients from the treatments they were going through by providing entertainment and educational devices for kids in the hospital.
“That’s why we came up with Kenley’s Locker, open up a locker so you can have iPads and Nintendo games,” Jansen said. “You can put education on there too while they’re in the hospital. Just interact with kids, help them forget they’re sick, light their eyes up. While they’re getting treatment to get better, they have stuff to do.”
  • Per Jared Diamond at The Wall Street Journal (subs. req.) -- "The Slugger Who Is Conjuring Ted Williams: Dodgers star Cody Bellinger used to only hit home runs. Now he is hitting over .400."
  • Julio Urias is expected back soon. Per Jeff Passan at ESPN -- "Sources: Urias to be reinstated, rejoin Dodgers."
MLB and the MLB Players Association agreed to place Urías on paid administrative leave pending the league's review of the video, sources said. Mall officials in possession of the video declined to give it to MLB, and while the league could have pursued a seven-day extension of administrative leave, the union and Urías would not have consented and could have filed a grievance, per the jointly negotiated domestic violence policy.
The league's investigation into Urías remains open, according to sources. Prosecutors have yet to file charges against Urías, and the Los Angeles Police Department still has not released an incident report.
