Blog Kiosk: 5/11/2020 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Great photo - Bad result. Pete Reiser was out at home. (eBay auction link) Below is what's written on the reverse:
Dusty Dodger Out At Home
Boston, Mass... Pete Reiser, Dodgers' left fielder made at game try but is declared "out" at the plate in the third inning of the opening game at Braves Field here today. The putout was made on Connie Ryan's throw to Phil Masi. Pee Wee Reese had previously scored on Saunders' fumble. The Boston Braves were trailing the Brooklyn visitors at this stage of the game 2 to 0. (Dated 7.7.1946) (Photo via Myer Ostroff).
Unfortunately, the Dodgers would lose this game, 3-2 (boxscore). Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1963 Sandy Koufax no-hit the Giants at Dodger Stadium, 8-0 (boxscore). In fact, he had a perfect game going into the eighth, before walking the second batter of the inning. Overall, he recorded four strikeouts, two walks and faced only 28 batters - only one more than the minimum. This was also his second career no-hitter.

  • Eric Longenhagen at Fangraphs releases the, "Top 47 Prospects: Los Angeles Dodgers."
  • On another note, Mookie Betts has a YouTube channel. Go here to check it out. He has just become an official spokesman/global ambassador for South Korean baseball and will be launching a digital content series. Per Yoo Jee-ho at Yonhap -- "Former AL MVP Mookie Betts to post digital content to promote S. Korean baseball."
"Korea, KBO and its players deserve to be recognized and celebrated for bringing baseball back during these tough times," Betts said in a release by VC Sports Group. "I'm thrilled to launch this series showcasing Korea and its world-class baseball and culture to the world."
The outside world pulled him away from what the games all about…if he had the mindset of Michael Jordan…I said he was gonna have two maybe three MVP’s, that’s the kind of talent he has…you have to think about the way he was raised and how he grew up and the stories of how he got over here. And then you’re given a lot of money…You have this great talent, and it’s not being used properly. To me it’s not physical, it’s all mental.
I tend to agree with McGwire. I think the ego got in the way.
"Had about 15 to 18 part-time staff hired on for this season,” Jackson said.
Once baseball was put on hold, it’s been just Jackson here by himself. His family and friends are jealous.
"Yeah, they say I've got the perfect job," Jackson said.
“There was a radio station in Hawaii that had a special Dodgers package from LA. Whenever a game was on, I always sat right up next to the radio and listened,” Fukuzaki said. “My mom remembers me telling her, ‘When I grow up, I want to be just like Vin Scully.’ ”

  • What an awesome job! Ross Yoshida, the Dodgers Director of Graphic Design, finished up his MLB logo chalk drawing, via his twitter:
